Holy Week IV

Reminder: “Praying Through Holy Week” is our invitation to a lifestyle of prayer that prepares us for Easter.

During Holy Week Prayer Exercise 3, we followed Jesus through His prayer in the garden, arrest, trial, crucifixion and suffering, death, and burial. On Holy Saturday we wait, we invite you to imagine how it was to wait without the knowledge we have today of His resurrection.

Holy Week Prayer Exercise #4 – Jesus with the Father / In-Between Time

Consider observing Holy Saturday in silence, pondering the time between Jesus’ death on the cross and His victory over death on Sunday morning.

On Holy Saturday:

Jesus:  Some believe that Jesus rested on this Sabbath with the Father after His suffering, death, supernatural earthquake and tearing of the veil of the temple.

The Women:  “The women who had come with Jesus… followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it.. They went home and prepared spices and perfumes. They rested on the Sabbath.” (Lk 23:55-56)

The Disciples: The disciples hid behind locked doors in fear of the Jewish leaders. (John 20:19)

On Holy Saturday, Reflect on – pray and write about

▪ The lavish and indescribable love of God for people and the unimaginable cost and pain of sin and separation from God

▪ “If Christ was not raised from the dead, we are still in our sins.”  (1 Corinthians 15:17)

  • The miracle of God bringing life out of death. Read John 12:24-27 Jesus gave His life so that others may live.  To honor Christ’s sacrifice, what must I die to, so that new life may come?

From the silence of Holy Saturday may we rejoice with God’s people because of Jesus’s resurrection!

Alleluia, He is Risen! He is risen indeed!
